Tsuzukiwaza
Tsuzukiwaza are techniques grouped together in a meaningful way, which are performed like a kata. In SHIN SHIN TOITSU AIKIDO there are currently 30 tsuzukiwaza, each with at least 7 techniques.
Aikido practitioners (called aikidōka), evaluate the progress achieved with promotion through advancement in a series of "degrees" (kyū - colored belts, dan - black belts), in compliance with formal examination procedures.
Some aikido federations simply use the white belt and the black belt to distinguish practitioners' grades.
The uniform used for the practice of aikido (aikidōgi) is similar to the uniform used in most modern martial arts (keikogi); simple trousers with a wraparound jacket, usually white in color. They are used with thick ("judo") or thin ("karate") cotton. Aikido practitioners can also wear a particular wide pant called hakama. In most dojos, wearing hakama is reserved for those who have achieved at least the 1st dan degree. In some dojos, however, the use of hakama is allowed starting from the 1st kyu degree, as in Balerna. In aikido the color of hakama must be black.

The graduations for adults reach from 5th kyu to 1st kyu (coloured belts) and then from 1st dan to 4th dan (black belts). Furthermore, there are the Ki-tests, which check the physical and mental stability.
